Chiropractic Adjustments Help Leg Pain Sufferers Find Relief In North Royalton

By Malinda Klosterman

Not everyone is familiar with the type of care a chiropractor can provide. It seems incongruent to them that manual adjustments to the back can alleviate pain felt in the legs. It is because the nerve roots that are located at the different levels of the spinal cord innervate the entire body. During your first appointment with a prominent North Royalton chiropractor, ask to see a chart that will illustrate how a nerve located in the back can cause leg pain.

A condition called sciatica is named for the sciatic nerve that branches out from the lower back. It is a thick nerve that narrows as it moves down the leg. If one of the discs separating the vertebrae is herniated, it exerts pressure against a nerve causing extreme pain. Other possible reasons for this type of pain are bone spurs or the spine growing narrow.

The leg affected by compression on the sciatic nerve will grow numb in addition to feeling sometimes excruciating pain. A chiropractor will recommend a care plan only after a thorough examination of your condition is complete. This may include range-of-motion tests, strength measurements and one or more x-rays.

After the evaluation is completed a care plan can be made. Spinal adjustments are often used to decrease the compression on the sciatic nerve, whatever the cause. These adjustments are made over time in a series of office visits.

Pain alleviation occurs faster or slower depending on the client. No two people are going to respond the same. Factors like age will affect the speed at which your hurting is lessened. You may, in addition to the adjustments, have an exercise program designed specifically for you. It can be followed at home between office visits.

The pain of sciatica that radiates downward can be felt not only in the leg, but, also in the foot and sometimes the toes. Between the hurting and numbness, even walking can be difficult. As the pain is alleviated you may look forward to a return to the good quality of life you enjoyed prior to the onset of the condition called sciatica.
