How To Deal With A Picky Eater

By Brian Foster

Some parents have to deal with children who do not like to eat their meals. Some have children who really have a lack of appetite while some of them are just really particular with what they eat. No matter what the cause, all parents will need some tips on how to deal with a picky eater.

Now the first thing that any parent has to take note of is to always be patient and to never use force because force breeds retaliation. Of course force will also make the child think that eating time is a chore and will not want to cooperate at all. So the key there is to always make sure to be patient.

Another tip would be to of course make sure to stick to routine with regard to eating time. Children tend to strictly follow a routine and if the routine is not followed, then there will of course be some retaliation because they are not used to change. So with regard to the time, always make sure to eat the same time everyday.

Now another thing that one has to take note of is that new dishes will take some time to get used to. Now if one is trying to make his or her child eat something new, then patience is a must when introducing the food. Of course one has to be patient because the child will probably not want to eat it right away.

Now another very important thing to take note of are the dishes that the child likes. If a child likes a certain dish, then try to give that dish a bit more often and give it while introducing new ones. Going slow is the key here while trying to stick to the routine and gradually changing it depending on the pace of the kid.

Another mistake that a lot of newbie parents would make is that they would try to bribe their kids to eat their meals. Do not ever do this because as they grow older, they will always expect something in return. So instead of bribing, just try to make eating as fun as possible so that the kid will enjoy.

As stated above, make mealtime fun by making it a time wherein the kid can enjoy himself. In order to do this, bring in some of the toys or bring in some books and let him play while he is eating. If the parent will do this consistently, then the kid will associate eating time with fun time and will be able to enjoy himself while he is eating.

Now for the parents out there who have to deal with their fussy children, hopefully these tips will be of help. Always remember that the primary rule would be to make sure that one has to be patient when dealing with kids. Conditioning the mind of a kid is quite a task but if one knows how to do this, then everything will go smoother.
