How To Reduce Back Pain

By Robert Thomas

While there are numerous ways to injure the body, there are often fewer that can help heal, especially in relation to the spine. For those who simply have intermittent back pain from time to time, over the counter medications can often be helpful. Whereas, for those with specific injuries, disc slippage or broken bones, healing often requires prescription medication and at times, physical therapy.

Individuals often know if there has been an accident which caused the issue. There can also be other issues akin to arthritis, sciatica and stiffness which can arise from older or unknown injuries. When experiencing these issues, it is important to talk with a health care provider who can prescribe the best treatment based on the location of the problem.

As these type issues can be some of the most difficult to identify, most health care providers will request an x-ray or MRI of the back be performed. After which, the provider can then determine the best avenue of treatment based on the results of the test. Most often, injuries severe enough to require this type testing are also going to require some form of treatment.

A good way to tell if an injury exists is when feeling numbness or tingling in the legs or lower back. If this is the case, there is a good chance there has been some type of major or minor injury to spine. After which, individuals can either choose to attempt to treat the injury at home with over the counter medications or look for a health care provider who can assist in treating the problem.

When using ice, it is important to only do so for the first 24 to 48 hours. After which, if the pain has not subsided and any swelling decreased, it is often a good time to call a health care provider. For, while these medications and ointments can work for some injuries, there are others that will require more intense or ongoing therapies.

For those who are still mobile, walking is one of the best ways to manage pain. In fact, many chiropractors who treat patients with this type issue often recommend that individuals walk four to six miles per day. For, in doing so one stretches the spin while also working the legs which can also be effected due to these and other lower back issues.

With this type condition being one of the most prevalent around the world, exercise is often recommended following treatment. A regular ongoing exercise regime can definitely help keep the spine strong. Learning how to create a natural brace to keep the back straight and protect against injury during exercise can also help ward against these issues.

Ultimately, bodies were made to move, including the spine. Of course, as the spine is the most sedentary aspect of a body, it does not move often enough. After which, muscles can tighten up and at times, refuse to let loose like in the case of sciatica or someone with a twisted pelvis or both. As such, the more walks an individual can take, the better chance back issues will be absent or at the very least, alleviated in the future.
