How To Use Essential Oils For Relief

By Kenneth Schmidt

There are a number of conditions in which holistic medicine can be beneficial. Some of these are anxiety, depression, pain and terminal illness. As such, essential oils for relief is often a good option when experiencing these conditions. For, the essence of flora and fauna are used in place of dangerous chemicals found in most over the counter and pharmaceutical products.

There are a number of these natural essences. Although, most can be broken down into four categories. These four aspects include those named for the plant from which the essence was derived, ethereal, aetherolea and volatile. When it comes to the definition of the term essence, it generally refers to the fragrance of the flower which produced the oil. At the same time, it should be noted that the term essence in this case does not relate to essential fatty or amino acids.

Unlike amino or fatty, essential oils are most often extracted by distillation. In most cases, the process uses steam to do so. Although, there are other methods. These include cold processing, resin tapping, absolute and solvent extraction and expression. Once extracted, the oils can be used in cleaning supplies, flavoring food and drink, creating incense, perfumes, soaps and cosmetics.

Essences have also been used in the holistic medical community for some time. In most cases, essences can be sold as remedies under a prescribed set of conditions as imposed by federal and state regulation. Although, as many have shown promise when it comes to treating cancer and other terminal illness, it may not be long before these products are accepted as a valid form of medication.

The interest in using these products has seen a revival since popularity dwindled in the mid-80s and 90s. Now, with the popularity of aromatherapy, the essences are once again becoming more popularized. For, aromatherapy is an alternative form of medicine which using these essences that has shown promise when it comes to various studies.

In most cases, aromatherapy products are used in massage offices to create a more relaxed environment for clients. Although, there are also private individuals who offer services such as aromatherapy baths and body rubs which require no specialized licensing. While this is the case, it is always important to discuss any uncomfortable reactions to different scents during the process.

Eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree oil and lavender are the four most common of all essences. When desiring to use these products, it can often be beneficial to look at a comparison sheet online. In doing so, one can see which essences effect body, mind and spirit in different ways. After which, it is easier to determine which scent might be best suited for calming or healing an illness at any given time.

Ibn a-Baitar has been credited with discovering the single distillation process to distract these essences. While most are still derived through this method, there is one exception. For, those using the y-lang y-lang method have often reported that it can take up to 22 hours before a fraction of an essence can be distilled unlike that of single distraction which can take far less time while producing more oil.
