And also, they need to have a very comprehensive knowledge on the general operation, diagnosis, and the treatment for disorders concerning the anus, colon, and rectum. A Morrilton AR colon surgeon specializes in an operative, postoperative, and preoperative care for the patients having colorectal disorders.

There are many different procedures and terms which are often utilized by the surgeons. Most of the commonly used terms in colorectal cancer are the local excision, laparoscopic surgery, polypectomy, and resection. The polypectomy is one procedure in which the polyps, small growths in the colons lining are being removed in performing colonoscopy. A colonoscopy is a procedure that will use colonoscope and are inserted into a rectum to view rectum and colon.

Local excision is being used for treating the cancers in rectum. It involves the removing of cancers and tissues from walls of the rectum. The procedure can be done through anus or small cuts in the rectums. The procedure does not require in doing some major operations in an abdominal part. The resection is removing of some parts of a colon along with tissues and cancers that are attached into it.

In laparoscopic surgery, the method of laparoscopy is being performed where in abdominal part cavities are checked by using the special type of scopes and cameras. The incision is performed in abdomen and instruments for laparoscopy are inserted into the small incision. The pictures that are seen in the intestinal organs are transmitted to video monitors for the surgeon to see.

The other four procedures for colorectal cancer surgery are stomas or ostomies, fecal diversion, K pouch, and J pouch. Stomas are the opening of some parts of bowel to the skin. Permanent stomas are being made if stool cannot pass into the normal route even after the surgery. While the temporary stomas are being made for keeping the stool away from the areas that are operated.

Fecal diversion is a process of performing ileostomy and colostomy. Ileostomy involves opening the parts in between small intestine and skin. Colostomy involves opening the parts in between colon and skin. This method is usually used as temporary measure to allow infection, surgery healing, and chronic inflammation.

The K pouch is attached to the anus to allow a person to go to a bathroom in a very similar way. The K pouch provides reservoir for the stool and also adds nipple valves in order to prevent the stool to leak. This procedure is not common for use by the surgeons due to its complexity during surgery.

J pouch is created at the end of small intestine for providing a place for the stool before the person goes to the bathroom for proctocolectomy. There are a lot of forms of ileal pouches. J pouch is considered as the most common.
